Cut is how the diamond is shaped, and therefore has the largest influence on the sparkling appearance of a diamond.

 

It's crucial for showcasing a diamond's natural brightness.

 

The better quality cut, the more dazzling the diamond will be.

The color quality of a diamond is based on the absence of coloration within a stone. Perfect diamonds are clear and colorless.

 

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) rates this on a scale from D to Z, with D being clear and Z being yellow. 

The clarity of a diamond is its lack of imperfections, or inclusions. Certain inclusions make diamonds appear dull despite the quality of the cut and colors.

 

While most inclusions are not visible to the naked eye, they can be pinpointed with a microscope.

While technically the British spelling of the word "karat," it's still important to note the weight of the diamond.

 

With the right cut, a smaller diamond may appear larger than it actually is.
